How to Win the Battle Against Pet Hair
Vacuum in two directions, brush before you clean, and change the filter often enough to keep suction strong.

Pet hair clings because it is statically charged and because it weaves itself into carpet pile. A single pass with a vacuum lifts the loose hair on top, but the hair woven into the pile only comes out when you change direction.
Vacuum the carpet in two passes: one with the pile, one across it. The cross pass stands the fibers up and pulls the embedded hair out. It takes a minute longer and it is the difference between a floor that looks clean and one that is.
Brush the animal before you clean the room, not after. A five-minute brush with an undercoat rake removes the loose hair that would otherwise land on the sofa that evening. Almost every hair on your couch started on your pet.
Rubber beats bristles on upholstery and car seats. A damp rubber glove or a silicone squeegee dragged across a couch gathers hair into a strip you can pick up by hand, and it works on a pet bed in seconds.
Wash the soft things on a schedule, not when they look dirty. Pet beds, fleece blankets and the covers a dog sleeps on hold hair deep in the weave that a vacuum cannot reach, but a wash with a cup of white vinegar in the rinse loosens it. Dry on low and the lint trap comes away with a full mat of hair.
Check the places that do not read as pet areas: the underside of the sofa skirt, the stair treads and risers, the crease where the rug meets the baseboard, and the pockets inside the car doors. Hair collects there because the airflow drops, and those spots are what make a room still feel gritty after you vacuumed the middle of the floor.
Wash the vacuum filter and empty the canister more often than the manual says. A clogged filter loses suction, and lost suction is the reason hair is still on the rug after you vacuumed. Rinse the filter monthly and let it dry overnight before putting it back.
